Do You Have Unclaimed Money or Property?

Could the government owe you money? Do you have cash stashed in a forgotten account? Uncovering hidden riches sounds like a dream but there are millions of dollars waiting to be claimed and some of them could belong to you. Here’s how to find out if you have unclaimed property or money:

Visit Unclaimed.org

Check out Unclaimed.org, a website operated by the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators. The NAUPA represents state governments protecting lost funds that are waiting to be claimed. All you have to do is click on your state to start the search for funds. Don’t just search the state in which you currently live– Unclaimed.org recommends searching every state you have ever lived in.

Visit MissingMoney.com

MissingMoney.com is a database of state unclaimed property records. What exactly is unclaimed property? It can be anything from bank accounts and safe deposit box contents to unchashed child support checks or escrow accounts. Search for free by simply typing in your name and state.

Visit Your State’s Website

Each state has it’s own method of tracking and finding unclaimed property. Many states now allow you to conduct online searches and databases for unclaimed property. If you discover that you do have unclaimed property, actually getting your hands on it may require different types of verification depending on the state involved. But if it means money in your pocket, it may be worth it.
